Incredible image of the star-forming compact gas cloud, GL490. Thanks, Phil Plait (aka The Bad Astronomer), for staying on top of all the cool astronomy stuff.

Is it really a monkey? What kind of goat is that? Is it from an episode of Little Rascals? I have nothing but questions.

Small group 10-day tour of Japan with Lennox Tierney, offered by Sterling Tours. I met Professor Tierney at the San Diego Japanese Friendship Garden… fascinating guy! The Japanese government awarded him the Order of the Rising Sun. He’s leading a tour of gardens, temples and palaces in Kyoto, Nara, Honshu Island, Takayama, Ise, Ogimachi Village and probably some other places.

Glims Safari Plugin →
I’ve been using glims for a few days. If you use safari, I highly recommend this plugin. Here are just a few of the features along with my enlightening comments.
Adds favicons to tabs, which, of course, safari should already do. Duh.
Re-opens last session when safari starts. You can do this in safari, but you have to pull down the history menu and choose it. Perhaps other folks leave tabs...

F.lux →
Free computer display adapter software with an intriguing name. Is it flux or eff lux? Either way, it sounds like you’re swearing, so that’s pretty nice. F.lux changes the color of your computer display, depending on time of day. You tell it your location and what type of lighting you use (fluorescent, halogen, tungsten) and that’s about it. I’m trying it.

MyWebSearch Hijacked Firefox →
Really irritating issue wherein mywebsearch hijacks your browser, forcing every search through their search engine, instead of google or other engine of your choice. Luckily, redshifter provides the solution. This is aimed at os x users, but there’s also a link for windows users. Check the comments, as folks apply this solution to other types of browser hijacks.
